On Hearing Grievous News From A Friend
change
in a purse snapped shut
rattles around
still tempting
spend me
dawn
shows its pink underskirt
and teases
find what lies deeper
underneath
sea
remains
always the same
undeniably
always changing
sky
billows with arguments
delivers blow after blow
quickly demonstrates
fleeting
time
also never still
presents itself
as ever present
choice
short-life
it suggests
to the deep ear
that hears thought
unspoken
choose
from all this
hard evidence
of each unknown
now
to be
awake
aware
alert
alive
